Book Description
If you look closely at Quentin Blake’s human aviary, you might see yourself — possibly the beloved and brilliant illustrator’s best book yet.

Quentin Blake has illustrated over 250 books by many writers, most famously, Roald Dahl. He is also well known for his own picture books such as Clown and Zagaroo. Now, in this exquisitely produced book, he gives free reign to his imagination.

The idea of drawing birds isn’t new, but it has allowed Quentin Blake licence to depict characters that he might not feel ready to otherwise. In his human aviary we see the young and the old, the weak and the strong; we see sadness and laughter; and perhaps, if we look closely, we see ourselves.

In The Life of Birds Quentin Blake follows in the footsteps of both the great illustrators — Lear and Daumier — and the fabulists — Aesop and La Fontaine, but in a manner that is entirely, delightfully, inimitably, his own.

About the Author
Quentin Blake was made an OBE in 1988 and was appointed the first Children’s Laureate in 1999. In 2002 he was made a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres, and the Quentin Blake Europe School in Berlin was named for him.
