Book Description
Postmodernism has been a widely used catch word and its concepts are extensively discussed in cultural studies, political thought, and the arts. Yet, its amorphous nature continues to confound, not in the least because there is not one but several definitions of postmodernism, each one pointing to different states of questioning, remembering, interpreting, and representing. By offering sophisticated and multi-faceted discussions on a number of key issues facing the postmodernism, this collection opens up the horizons of investigation and addresses the dynamic relationship between the art of cinema and the complex concepts of postmodernism. Organized to address specific themes and films and it includes thirteen essays and examines films such as The Player, Aladdin, Singles, Reality Bites, Waynes World, Tampopo, A Room with a View, Barton Fink, Akira Kurosawa's Dreams, Drowning by Numbers, Coup de torchon, On a Polish, Querelle, and more.
