Stars: The Film Reader brings together key writings and new perspectives on stars and stardom in film and television, addressing questions of production, labor and circulation, and examining neglected areas of study such as the director as star, connections between stardom and avant-garde filmmaking, and changes in stardom through television. Contributors also discuss how the present age of information, gossip, biographical fetishism and fascination with disaster has led to a "tabloidization" of culture, which has produced changes in the conception of the star persona.


About the Author
Lucy Fischer is Professor of English and is the Director of the Interdisciplinary Film Studies program at the University of Pittsburgh and is the author of Designing Women (2003). Marcia Landy is Professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh and is the author of Italian Film (2000).
