Book Description
Rolling Stones: 40 x 20 celebrates the 40-year career of "The World's Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band" with the images of 20 of the world's greatest music photographers. Organized to coincide with the Stones' 2002-2003 fortieth anniversary tour, the book features a selection of 80 exceptional photographs that document the remarkable longevity and popularity of one of the most influential, enduring, successful, and at times controversial bands in the history of popular music.

Beginning with Gus Coral's photos of the Rolling Stones' first tour of England in fall of 1963, 40 x 20 chronicles the band's development through such key periods as the Between the Buttons photographs of Gered Mankowitz, the Satanic Majesties Request-era images of Michael Cooper, and the Beggar's Banquet sessions photos of Michael Joseph.

Photographers include Fernando Aceves, Michael Cooper, Gus Coral, William Coupon, Barry Feinstein, Claude Gassian, Bob Gruen, Ross Halfin, Michael Joseph, Art Kane, Eddie Kramer, Chris Makos, Gered Mankowitz, Jan Olofsson, Michael Putland, Ethan Russell, Mark Seliger, Kate Simon, Dick Waterman, and Baron Wolman.

Each photo is accompanied by a statement by the photographer discussing the significance of, or circumstances under which the image was shot. 40 x 20 begins with an Introduction written by Richard Harrington, Music Editor for the Washington Post.
